Building Bridges Between Academia and Industry

August 27, 2025

RS Logistics Indonesia (RSID) was delighted to host a group of undergraduates from Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) at our Jakarta office, turning a regular working day into a meaningful exchange of ideas and aspirations.

Connecting Theory with Practice

For the students, the visit provided a rare chance to step out of the classroom and observe how logistics operates in the real world. During their time with us, they were introduced to our daily operations, customer service workflows, and the technologies we use — including MyRS, our proprietary digital platform that supports cargo tracking, shipment visibility, and collaboration dashboards. By engaging directly with professionals on the ground, the students gained valuable insights into how freight forwarding companies plan routes, coordinate with shipping lines, and respond to dynamic global supply chain challenges. Such experiences help them bridge the gap between theory and application, preparing them for careers in a fast-changing industry.

 Why Engagement Matters

At RS Logistics, we believe that cultivating relationships with the student community is an investment in the future of logistics. Young talent brings new perspectives, curiosity, and a willingness to question established practices — qualities that are essential for an industry facing rapid digitalisation, sustainability goals, and evolving customer expectations.

Through activities like this, we not only share our own expertise but also learn from the questions and observations of the next generation. Their fresh outlook encourages us to continue innovating and improving the way we work.

 Encouraging Feedback and Lasting Connections

The visit was well received by the SMU Indonesia schoolmate group, whose positive feedback reinforces the value of maintaining close ties with academic communities. For students abroad, having access to a professional environment where they can see theory translated into practice helps build confidence and motivation to pursue meaningful careers in supply chain and logistics.

 Future Directions

The success of this activity inspires us to explore more initiatives with universities and student associations, both locally and internationally. Whether through office visits, mentorship programmes, internships, or joint research projects, RS Logistics aims to continue acting as a bridge between education and enterprise, supporting young professionals as they grow into future leaders of the logistics sector.
